O/C Laid Down on on Board “Autumn Comes to Grand Tetons” Signed and Dated L/R “Olaf Moller, ’32″(1901-1985)
Danish born Olaf Moller was largely forgotten after a stellar contemporary reception. Without a proper biographer, what we know trickles to us from a collection of newspaper articles pinned to the back of a painting of Moller’s inherited by a collector. From what is known, Moller studied under N. C. Wyeth at the Philadelphia Academy of art from 1921-29. During this time, he received an apprenticeship in Oyster Bay, NY making frames for the Louis Comfort Tiffany Company. It is not uncommon for Moller paintings to be housed in Moller frames. His work can be found at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois; the University of Idaho in Boise; the Twin Falls, Idaho high school; and the Columbian Club in Boise.
