Bears handwritten label on verso “David Dunlap, Hoosier Salon, Brown County” (David W. Dunlap, 1901-1973) and purchased from estate of the artist.
Born in Indianapolis and studying at the Herron School of Art, Dunlap painted almost exclusively in the surrounding area. He exhibited for many years in the Hoosier Salon. Indebted to the pointillism of the late 1800s, the surface treatment of this piece is incredibly active, with thick impasto and encourages hanging strategies that allow the contrasting colors and textures to come out.
