The Dead Artists Gallery presents “Afternoon Rest”

Signed L/R “Tarinson”

This mid-century representation of boats at rest in a small Italian port on the Mediterranean was painted by the British plein aire artist Paul Tarinson, c. 1950-60. Inspired by the long artistic history of seascapes, especially those of the Impressionists, Tarinson breaks with tradition by mixing tight, blended brushwork in the boats with looser brush work in the water and background. This dynamism encourages a span of hanging strategies, especially those which architecturally frame  the piece Рalthough the size does preclude hanging in tight spaces.

23 x 27 1/2 in original wood frame.
