Another expatriate Brit, Sweetin spent her post-war years in the south of France. Though biographical information is scarce, the quality of the artist is evident in her combination of two of the most technically demanding aspects of mimetic painting- depicting not only moving water, but reflections couched within that movement. Brilliantly executed in almost divisible brushstrokes, this somewhat large piece lends itself to a close encounter where the viewer is invited to travel into the space of the painting, guided by the gentle bend in the river.
