The Dead Artists Gallery presents “Cypress Bay”

O/Canvas Signed L/R- “( Vondersmidt, 1948) was probably done by David Robert Vondersmith (1883-1956). Signed lower left, signed, dated and incribed on verso. After emigrating from Pennsylvania where he was trained to Los Angeles in 1929, it is speculated he altered his name to avoid unwelcome attention during WWII. Vonderschmidt’s ability to meld the organic tree trunks and vegetation into the inorganic rocks and boulders was a unique perspective maginified later by the abstract realists.
