The Dead Artists Gallery presents “Long Lake, Hudson Highlands”


Signed with initials “AM” (Andrew Melrose, 1836-1901) and dated ’81 L/L.  Fully signed, dated and titled on verso.

“A Long Lake” is probably an early view of Clear Lake Scout Camp Reservation located in Putnam Valley, New York. Melrose was an important Scottish-American plein air artist who painted primarily in Western New York and New Jersey with occasional forays into Virginia and North Carolina. Melrose is represented in many  major collections and most American Museums.
