Signed L/R “Eliot Clark” (1883-1980) and additionally on verso “Elliot Candee Clark”
Born in NYC, Clark was the son of artist Walter Clark. After studying briefly at the Art Student’s League under Edward Potthast (1857-1927) and John Henry Twachtman (1853-1902), he taught there from 1912-1922. A member of the Salmagundi Club and the National Art Club, he was also elected to the National Academy, where he won a number of prizes in their exhibitions. Clark lived many years in Albemarle County, VA, where this small example of his impressionistic skills was painted c. 1920-30.
