Pair, small contemporary paintings

 1: Signed “Louis Wolchonok” (1898-1973) and additionally bears a state stamp on Verso

2: Initialed and titled with a state stamp on verso

 Wolchonok studied art at the National Academy of Design, the Cooper Union Art School, the City College of New York, the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Art, and finally at the Julienne Academy in Paris. He taught Drafting, Design, Painting, and Etching; and authored several books on the same. He was best known as a social realist artist, painting the people and places around him to call attention to the injustices of the time. These abstract paintings, however, are among a number of abstract paintings, ink drawings and studies Wolchonok undertook in the latter part of his life.
