Morell, a well-known Massachusetts naturalist and painter of sporting scenes, captures the solitary dedication of the lone hunter in this large painting. Although large, the tight brushwork lends itself to a closer encounter, which makes this piece especially apt for a mantle piece, or to enliven stagnant smaller spaces. Highly illusionistic, this piece creates a dynamic sense of depth that opens up the room in which it hangs.
