The Dead Artists Gallery presents “Ante Meridian”

Oil on canvas “Ante Meridian”, signed lower right “Bennett Schroeder Bradbury” (1914-1991) . Powerful midcentury view of the Pacific Ocean, probably Mendocino Beach area, Massachusetts born, Bradberry studied briefly at the Boston Museum of fine arts in 1929 and then joined the US Navy in 1931.Following the war, he settled in Laguna Beach and Honolulu where he developed a love of the sea evident in all of his paintings,finally settling in Carmel California. With multiple memberships and exhibitions, his works are found in major collections across the United States. An early champion was his brother the author Ray Bradbury. To paraphrase Irwin Barrie “ Bradbury takes his place among the leading artist of the sea, equal to Winslow Homer and Frederick Judd Waugh(1861-1940) in his ability to portray on canvas the majesty,power,and dignity of the ocean.”
