The Dead Artists Gallery presents “Deux Femmes au Lavage”

“Deux Femmes au Lavage”. Signed L/R “J.R.(James Randolph) Fisher(1862-1941). Resonating with the American love of 19th-century French Impressionism, this large canvas by Fisher executed circa 1890 –1900 captures two women going about their tasks of washing linen while enjoying a spirited conversation. The pollarded trees in the foreground, the baskets and the laundry cart all add to the scenic romanticism of the French countryside. Fisher was a Philadelphia trained artist who painted genre scenes in the south of France, incorporating the palettes so popular in both France and America during that period.
