Borrowing a page from Utrillo’s notebook (Maurice Utrillo , 1883–1955), Yuri fully develops this charming, almost square(23 x24) village street view using flat and solid façades connected to one another by trails of color, not unlike Cezanne constructed his landscapes. Yuri (Gusev, 1928-2016) was familiar with all of his French bohemian predecessors, and seemed comfortable with each in his cityscapes as well as rural landscapes.
