The Dead Artists Gallery Presents “Shades of Braque”

Braque? (Georges, 1882-1963)… Yes,… and… No. This large oil on canvas painted about 1945-50 in Havana by a museum apprentice certainly carries tht shades of Braque, if not the echo. Presented in a wonderful French-carved wood and gesso frame 41″ x 32″ circa 1920, it actually pretty well defined cubism. Evoking Braque’s “L’eglise de Carriers-Saint-Denis”, this painting embraces the sharp-edged surfaces and graduated tones he developed during his friendship with Picasso.
