Signed L/L “B. (Bernard) Sale”. Additionally inscribed on verso.
This plein air marine painter depicts the Redpath Sugar Building, a storage, refining and sugar museum located on Queen’s Quay in Toronto. Sugar processed at the plant originated in both the Caribbean and Brazil; it was delivered and stockpiled by ships plying the St. Lawrence Seaway. Although loose brushwork usually rewards a distant encounter, the intimate size of this painting encourages a close encounter, during which the viewer can appreciate the texture and materiality of the paint at hand.
