The Dead Artists Gallery Presents “Still Life with Mixed Fruit”

“Still Life with Mixed Fruit.” With his eye on the 18th century Dutch “Golden Age” of still life artists,Roel Wildeboer (1902-1989) chose to incorporate ordinary fruits rather than exotic imported ones portrayed by the earlier Dutch masters. it’s so doing he helped define the 20th century “Golden Age” of hyperrealism, which is used and appreciated even today. Presented here is a group of pears, grapes, apples, and plums precisely positioned on carefully folded napkins. (This could easily have been painted in the first quarter of the 19th century rather than in 1940.) Signed lower mid-center of canvas, and again on stretcher, the original simple stained wood frame 23 x 19 complements the well-positioned fruit. $575.
