Oil on canvas. Signed and titled on verso “Heart of the Forest,Philip Hugh Padwick” 1876-1958.
A member of the Royal British Academy, Padwick’s paintings are currently being exhibited in 33 venues across the United Kingdom. His impressionistic style is the last bastion of European impressionism, before abstraction firmly took hold and notions of impressionism floated to the more visually conservative America. The dark black used by Padwick was most likely made of bitumen, which creates intense texture and darkness as it dries.
30″ x 35″ in original frame circa 1915-1920.
$1600
