“Sugar Mill, New Smyrna”. All the colors of today were captured in this oil on masonite by Philadelphia artist Mary Watson Padlow(1872-1961) about 1940 while wintering in Florida. Although primarily self- taught , Padlow nevertheless achieved membership in many prestigious groups such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Chester County Art Association, no mean feat for a female of this period. Known for her open brushwork and amalgamation of color in the Fauvistic style, her depiction of the old sugarmill ruins is 28 x 35 in it’s original pleached- wood cove-molded frame.
$675.
