Oil on artist board. Signed L/R “Pauli” circa 1960.
Originally a French children story which was abbreviated and translated by the English into a nursery rhyme by selecting a single stanza from the original French text. American folklore believes Mother Goose was a Bostonian widow in the 1660’s who joined a new family and helped rear their 16 collective children. No evidence exists of her, or the original publication claimed to have been written from transcriptions of her songs.
22 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ in period mid-century frame.
$575
