May I introduce John Edgerton,Second Earl of Bridgewater. Painted by William Claret about 1680, the original hangs as part of the National Trust in Tatton Park. This museum apprentice piece painted about 1820 and presented in its original water-gilt frame 35 x 30 was probably done for one of the great country houses of the time. Not much is known about Claret.. he was definitely born since his date of death is known(1706)… But much is known about his illustrious subjects such as Mary II, William, Duke of Gloucester, and George Jeffrey, 1st. Baron of Wem.
