Krantz was a Chicago still life artist. Still life was historically used as a genre of showcasing the technical skill of painting. Krantz’s acute attention to the way the drapery interacts with the light on the left, or the way the colors seep behind and through the glass bottles. Light reflective surfaces and drapery are considered some of the most technically demanding skills in painting.
